This website was created by Danna Wode as a part of her capstone defense for her Masters in Art Education through the University of Florida. Danna’s capstone project was created to explore the historical and current marginalization and future inclusion and increase of female artists in K-12 art curriculum. For the study, Danna surveyed K-12 art educators on their teaching and knowledge of female artists; where educators see a gender divide; and what resources would be needed to close the gap. She combined the results of the survey with her own research to create an online database of female artists as a tool for art educators to include more female artists in their lessons. Her findings suggest that educators are aware of the gender divide and want to make a change, but personal knowledge and time have inhibited progress. Given proper resources, there is a greater chance more female artists can be included in the k-12 curriculum.
